The Sicamous Eagles held off the Osoyoos Coyotes 3-1 on Wednesday night at the Sun Bowl Arena.
The Coyotes played a solid two periods and probably deserved a better fate. However, it was the same old nemesis that cost them in the end, a lack of scoring.
Sicamous led 1-0 after the first. Osoyoos had a chance to tie the game a little over five minutes into the middle period, but Dexter Materi was denied on a penalty shot.
In just his second game back from injury, Kyle Cyr did even things at 1-1, only to have the Eagles restore their one goal advantage just 1:18 later.
A powerplay marker in the first minute of the third gave Sicamous some insurance, which it rode to victory.
Final shots were 42-35 in favour of the Coyotes. Brendan Gee suffered the loss in what was likely his last appearance with Osoyoos. He’s expected to return to the Wenatchee Wild of the Western Hockey League. A priority will be to find a new back-up to Hunter Arntsen.
The loss drops the Coyotes 10 points back of the Eagles in the Bill Ohlhausen Division, still eight points behind Merritt for the final playoff spot.
Osoyoos heads into the Christmas break after Saturday’s (Dec. 14th) hosting of the Golden Rockets, with Game Sponsor Highway to Healing Support Society. Everything gets underway at 7:00 o’clock on a night that features the traditional “Christmas Toy Toss.”
