The Fernie Ghostriders scored the game’s first seven goals in cruising to an 8-2 win over the Osoyoos Coyotes, Saturday night at the Sun Bowl Arena.
Fernie led 3-0 after the opening period and 8-1 following 40 minutes in what was a dominating performance.
Luca Pileggi and Affiliate Player Kylen Martens, with his first Junior Hockey goal, were all the Coyotes could muster offensively.
Jaiden Jakubowski was pulled early in the second period after surrendering six goals on 22 shots.
About the only bright spot for Osoyoos was the play of back-up Nolan Antonello, who came in in relief of Jakubowski. The local South Okanagan U18 A1 netminder looked unphased during his nearly 36 minutes, allowing just two goals on the 19 shots he faced the rest of the way.
Shots on goals ended up a lopsided 41-22 in favour of the Ghostriders.
The Coyotes conclude a disappointing season next weekend. Osoyoos travels to Sicamous on Friday night (Feb. 21st), before hosting Kamloops Saturday night (Feb. 22nd), featuring Game Sponsor the Owl Pub.
