Kyle Cyr (pictured above) tied the game with just 4:59 left in regulation, before scoring the game winner 1:53 into overtime to lift the Osoyoos Coyotes past the Kelowna Chiefs 5-4, Friday night in Rutland.
Both of Cyr’s goals came during a man advantage of which the Coyotes were three-for-five.
Logan Messer on the powerplay, Kaelen Halowaty and Austin Cooper had the other Osoyoos markers. Both Mason Rudolph and Spencer Fleck added a pair of assists.
The Coyotes had leads of 1-0 and 3-2, prior to overcoming a 4-3 third period deficit.
Shots were 34-29 in favour of the Chiefs.
Acquired just yesterday from Columbia Valley, Jaiden Jakubowski earned the netminding win in his Osoyoos debut. What made it even more impressive was the fact that he suited up with his new team after driving over five hours from Invermere to Kelowna the same day.
Talk about a close season series. All four meetings between the Coyotes and Chiefs have been decided by one goal, including two shootouts and Friday night’s sudden death result.
The teams play the second half of their weekend home-and-home on Saturday night (Jan. 11th), beginning at 7:00 o’clock at the Sun Bowl Arena, featuring Game Sponsor McDonald’s.
