Five weeks ago, the Osoyoos Coyotes were embarrassed at home 9-2 by the Sicamous Eagles. The worst was feared of Saturday night’s re-match at Sicamous. However, the Coyotes managed to hold their own against the KIJHL leading Eagles. They ended up losing the game 3-1, but certainly shouldn’t be ashamed of the result.
Osoyoos had plenty of scoring chances, including a number of breakaways and eight powerplay opportunities.
Marko Pavlovic was the lone player to convert for the Coyotes, being sent in home free by Sean Quinn, halfway through the first period.
It was 1-1 after 20-minutes, with Sicamous going in front early in the middle period, a lead that stood until the final minute, when an empty netter sealed the win.
A strong third period saw Osoyoos tie the Eagles in shots with 12 apiece. Sicamous held a 38-23 overall shot advantage during a minor penalty filled contest in which the Coyotes killed off all nine they were assessed. Add to that, the usual strong goaltending performance from Hunter Arntsen.
Next weekend provides two more difficult challenges as the current losing streak now sits at five games. Osoyoos visits Revelstoke on Friday night, prior to facing Beaver Valley, Saturday night at the Sun Bowl Arena.
