It was a confidence building weekend for the Osoyoos Coyotes, who played a couple of very good hockey games.
Friday night’s 2-0 loss in Revelstoke showed great promise. For all intensive purposes a 1-0 defeat when taking into account a late empty net goal by the Grizzlies.
Back home on Saturday night at the Sun Bowl, the Coyotes orchestrated a 60 minute gem in beating the visiting Williams Lake Mustangs 4-1.
Spencer Fleck scored twice, with Brody McLean and Taynon Charters adding a goal apiece. For an excited McLean (pictured above), his first Junior hockey marker. One of Fleck’s and Charters’ tally came on the powerplay. Kaelen Halowaty and Mason Rudolph each contributed a pair of assists.
Osoyoos led 2-0 after the first period and 3-0 following 40 minutes, prior to going up 4-0 early in the third.
Sam Koester unfortunately lost his shutout bid during a Williams Lake man advantage with only 2:36 remaining.
Shots were 33-24 in favour of the Coyotes, whose effort helps to keep their crossover playoff hopes alive.
A win at Sicamous Tuesday night (Jan. 27th) will move Osoyoos ahead of the Eagles and into fifth place of the Bill Ohlhausen Division. Next Friday (Jan. 30th), the Beaver Valley Nitehawks come to town for a 7:00 pm start, featuring Game Sponsor Tim Hortons.
