The Osoyoos Coyotes exploded for four goals in less than three minutes late in the third to knock off the Creston Valley Thunder Cats 6-2, Saturday night at the Sun Bowl Arena.
By no means is the end result indicative of the majority of the game.
Osoyoos led 2-0 in the first period, thanks to Russell Weatherhead and Steve Andrusiak markers.
Creston Valley narrowed the deficit to 2-1 by the time the period was out and following a scoreless second, it took the Thunder Cats only 1:26 into the third period to even things at 2-2.
Most in attendance likely thought the contest was headed for overtime, however Nicholas Vopat (pictured above) tallied what turned out to be the winning goal on the powerplay with 3:31 remaining, which just happened to open the flood gates.
Vopat got his second of the night into an empty net a short time later, but the Coyotes weren’t done there.
Logan Messer and Garrett Kurtz add two more 25 seconds apart to turn a close hockey game into an unexpected rout.
Spencer Fleck added three assists.
Brendan Gee responded well in net, earning the win on the heels a rough debut the night before in Revelstoke.
Osoyoos outshot Creston Valley 39-30.
For those who feel the recent write-ups have been overly critical and rough on the team, let’s give credit when credit is due. The Coyotes played a full 60 minutes and deserve the confidence building outcome they thoroughly earned.
