The Osoyoos Coyotes saw a further decline to their playoff hopes with a 5-3 setback to the Williams Lake Mustangs, Saturday night at the Sun Bowl Arena.
It looked fairly promising early when the Coyotes struck just 30 seconds into the game. However, the Mustangs tallied twice in the first and counted the lone goal of the second period to take a 3-1 advantage after 40 minutes.
Osoyoos got to within one at 3-2 five minutes into the third period, but Williams Lake added a couple more to go up 5-2. The Coyotes connected late on the powerplay, while Jaiden Jakubowski sat on the bench for an extra attacker. Obviously too little, too late.
Russell Weatherhead, Scott Dyck and Cameron Whitelaw scored for Osoyoos.
Jakubowski suffered the netminding defeat. Final shots were 46-43 in favour of the Coyotes.
The loss, combined with Merritt’s win on Saturday, drops Osoyoos 15 points back of the fourth place Centennials in the Bill Ohlhausen Division, again leaving aspirations of a post-season berth that much more unlikely.
Two demanding road games are looming on the horizon. Next Friday night’s trip to Revelstoke, as a well as a Saturday night outing in Princeton.
