The Coyotes are just one win away from advancing to the Okanagan/Shuswap Conference Final after squeaking out a 2-1 decision over Summerland, Thursday night in Osoyoos. The victory gives the Coyotes a 3-2 advantage in the Bill Ohlhausen, Best-of-Seven Final.
The Steam actually led 1-0 after the opening period. Tegan Neuman, with his long awaited first goal of the playoffs, tied the game 6:49 into the second period.
Osoyoos controlled most of the play and had the better overall scoring chances, but it wasn’t until Ryan Bester notched the go-ahead and eventual game winning goal with only 5:04 remaining.
Things got a bit dicey for the Coyotes in the final minute when Summerland pushed hard during a six-on-four as Kaleb Kremp took a late penalty in the offensive zone and netminder Colton Macaulay was on the bench in favour of an extra attacker. However, the Steam was unable to get the equalizer.
Goaltenders Kenneth Marquart and Colton Macaulay were both stellar throughout. Osoyoos outshot Summerland 35-28.
The Coyotes will be looking to wrap up the series when they visit the Steam for Game Six, Friday night (Mar. 11th).
