Despite a vastly improved effort on Wednesday night at the Sun Bowl Arena, the Osoyoos Coyotes found themselves on the short end of a 5-4 decision to the Grand Forks Border Bruins.
Grand Forks led 1-0 after the first period and 3-0 early in the second, before the Coyotes stormed back with three straight goals in under eight minutes to tie game at 3-3.
Austin Cooper, Mathieu Lessard and Cooper again drew Osoyoos even after 40 minutes.
The Border Bruins regained the lead less than eight minutes into the third, only to see the Coyotes equalize, thanks to a Curtiss Gordon marker, just 20-seconds later.
That left things to be settled in three-in-three sudden death, which didn’t last long. Levi Astill notched his second goal of the night 34-seconds into overtime to send Grand Forks home victorious,
Gordon and Lessard also added an assist apiece.
Osoyoos outshot the Border Bruins 44-40 in what was a free-wheeling contest. Hunter Arntsen suffered the defeat in net.
The Coyotes conclude pre-season play by hosting the Kelowna Chiefs, Saturday night at 7:00.
