A long holiday break certainly didn’t help the Osoyoos Coyotes in their initial outing of 2026.
The Coyotes returned to game action Friday night in Fernie following 20 days off, which resulted in a 6-0 shutout by the Ghostriders.
After a quiet opening period, Fernie erupted for four second period goals before adding two more in the third.
Osoyoos went zero for five on the powerplay and actually had its best opportunity to set a positive tone in the first period. With the game still scoreless, the Coyotes failed to capitalize during a five-on-three man advantage that lasted almost a full two minutes.
Final shots were 38-25 for the Ghostriders. Sam Koester absorbed the loss in net.
The three game East Kootenay road trip continues on Saturday night (Jan. 10th) at Columbia Valley (Invermere), where Osoyoos looks to snap a four game losing streak. Sunday afternoon (Jan. 11th), the Coyotes visit Golden.
