The Osoyoos Coyotes experienced their first sudden death game of the season. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out the way they had hoped as the Steam needed only 28-seconds of three-on-three to escape with a 6-5 victory, Friday night in Summerland.
It was a long road getting to that point. The teams were tied 1-1 after 20-minutes and 3-3 entering the third.
The Steam scored twice to go up 5-3, however the Coyotes battled back with a pair of goals, including one with just 47-seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.
Scott Dyck tallied two powerplay markers, with Rylan Konecsni adding a pair, including the game tying goal in the final minute. Asher Makway had the other late Osoyoos goal on the man advantage. Konescni also had an assist in his debut, while Nelson Webster and Levi Brewer contributed two helpers apiece.
While the Coyotes scored three powerplay goals, Summerland responded with four of its own.
Osoyoos outshot the Steam 22-18, meaning there were 11 goals on a combined 40 shots. Not a great night for either goaltender. Justin Goetz suffered the loss in net.
The single point leaves the Coyotes at 1-4-1-0 on the early season as they prepare to host the Doug Birks Division leading Sicamous Eagles on Saturday night (October 7th), beginning at 7:00.
The Osoyoos Coyotes don’t have another away game until November 3rd, playing five straight at the Sun Bowl between now and then.
