Exactly one week ago, the Kelowna Chiefs defeated Osoyoos 6-5 in a shootout at the Sun Bowl Arena. Apparently, it was time for the Coyotes to return the favour on Friday night in Kelowna, beating the Chiefs 3-2, again in a shootout.
Austin Cooper scored his first of two near the midway point of the opening period to give Osoyoos a 1-0 lead after one.
That held up until the final two minutes of the second period at which point Kelowna tied the game 1-1.
The Chiefs went ahead for the first time a little over six minutes into the third.
However, Cooper evened things by converting a rebound with just 3:34 remaining in regulation time.
Following a scoreless five minute overtime, Mason Rudolph (pictured above) was the only successful player during three rounds of the shootout.
The Coyotes owe a lot of the credit to winning goaltender Brendan Gee, who stopped 35 of 37 shots, holding his team in the game, especially in the second when Osoyoos spent most of the period inside its own end. Kelowna outshot the Coyotes 37-24 through 65 minutes.
The victory keeps Osoyoos one point up on the Chiefs in fifth place of the Bill Ohlhausen Division as it now prepares for a pair of home games prior to the Christmas break. The Sicamous Eagles come to town on Wednesday night (Dec. 11th). Game Sponsor is Nesters Market. That’s followed by the traditional “Christmas Toy Toss” outing against the Golden Rockets, Saturday (Dec. 14th). Game Sponsor that night is the Highway to Healing Support Society.
