It’s doubtful anyone saw this coming — the Osoyoos Coyotes being dominated two nights in-a-row at home in their opening round playoff series. Full credit to the North Okanagan Knights, who took a 2-0 lead in the Bill Ohlhausen Division Best-of-Seven, Semi-Final Playoff Series with a decisive 6-1 victory, Saturday night at the Sun Bowl.
Again, the Coyotes fell behind early, trailing 2-0 after the first period.
Coletyn Boyarski trimmed the deficit in half less than six minutes into the second, however the Knights restored their two goal lead before the period was out, adding three more in the third as frustration for Osoyoos continued and the infractions mounted.
The Coyotes actually drew 72 minutes in penalties compared to North Okanagan’s 10, which included a gross misconduct and three 10 minute misconducts. The Knights went three for 11 on the powerplay, with Osoyoos going scoreless during five man advantage opportunities.
Rhett Harkot suffered the loss in net. North Okanagan outshot the Coyotes 48-38.
Hopefully the Osoyoos Coyotes will be able to re-group and focus on playing more like they did during the regular season. They have created a pretty difficult situation for themselves, down 2-0 in the series, having to travel to Armstrong for Games Three and Four, Monday (Feb. 20th) and Wednesday (Feb. 22nd) night respectively.
