Dexter Materi (pictured above) scored with just 5:39 left in regulation time to give Osoyoos a 2-1 victory over Chase, Saturday night at the Sun Bowl Arena.
This, after Russell Weatherhead drew the Coyotes even at 1-1 near the halfway point of the third period.
The Heat actually got on the board on the powerplay just over three minutes into the opening period, a lead that held up until Weatherhead’s game tying marker.
Osoyoos pretty much dominated the final 20 minutes, outshooting Chase 13-6. Overall shots were 38-30 in favour of the Coyotes, with Hunter Arntsen earning the goaltending decision.
It was a physical and sometimes chippy affair that saw the two teams combine for 84 minutes in penalties, including two fighting majors apiece.
The win keeps Osoyoos one point ahead of Kelowna in the Bill Ohlhausen Division, setting the stage for a crucial home ice encounter between the Coyotes and Chiefs next Friday night (Nov. 29th).
Face-off time is 7:00 o’clock, featuring Game Sponsors OCU Osoyoos and Desert Sun Counselling & Resource Centre.
