Needless to say, averaging just over two-and-a-half goals per game makes it very challenging to consistently win. That’s where the Osoyoos Coyotes sit after 11 games, only scoring once in a 2-1 loss to the Centennials on Friday night in Merritt.
The Coyotes waited until the final two minutes to make things interesting. Mason Rudolph tallied at 18:19 of the third period, with Hunter Arntsen on the bench for an extra attacker. Another last second push for overtime came up short.
Osoyoos had 15 shots in the opening period, but managed just 14 combined over the course of the remaining two periods.
A couple of positives from Friday night were the killing of a five minute major, in addition to the stellar play of Arntsen, who stopped 34 of 36 pucks sent his way, including a second period penalty shot. The Centennials outshot the Coyotes 36-29 overall.
At 5-6-0-0, Osoyoos currently finds itself last in the Bill Ohlhausen Division. However, only five points separate places two through six.
The second half of a home-and-home against Merritt takes place Saturday night (Oct. 26th) at the Sun Bowl Arena. Face-off time is 7:00 o’clock, featuring Game Sponsor Otter Co-op.
