It certainly wasn’t the start to the regular season the Osoyoos Coyotes were hoping for as they dropped all three games of an East Kootenay road trip, the finale a 6-3 doubling by the Rockets on Sunday afternoon in Golden.
Nelson Webster bookended the first period scoring with a goal only 1:32 in, as well as a powerplay marker at 11:22. The Rockets tallied twice between, leaving the game tied at 2-2 after 20 minutes.
In what appears to be the trend through their first three games, the Coyotes stay close early, only to fade during the second and third periods.
This time, Golden was up 5-2 after two and 6-2 just over a-minute into the third.
Scott Dyck brought Osoyoos to within three at 6-3 during a two-man advantage, but that’s all the Coyotes could manage.
Justin Goetz took over the goaltending duties from Tayton Stewart, who was relieved after allowing four goals on 18 shots. The Rockets outshot the Coyotes 32-25.
Osoyoos plays its fourth consecutive away game to begin the season, Friday night (September 29th) at North Okanagan. The Knights return the favour the following night (September 30th) by visiting the Sun Bowl for the Coyotes regular season home opener, getting underway at 7:00. Sponsored by Tim Hortons.
