Colby Phillips of the Columbia Valley Rockies, Payton McDonald-Corea of the Osoyoos Coyotes and Jack Osmond of the Chase Heat have been selected the Instat Kootenay International Junior Hockey League 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending, Dec. 19.
Phillips- Top Forward – The Red Deer, Alberta native recorded three goals, five assists for eight points in three games, to help the Rockies win twice. Phillips started the week with a two-goal, three-point performance in a win over Fernie. In their first of back-to-back games against the Golden Rockets, Phillips had a goal and four points in the win. In their loss to Golden at home, Phillips collected an assist. In 26 games, Phillips is second on the team in points with eight goals and 34 points. Those totals rank him fourth overall in the KIJHL and he leads the league with 26 assists.
McDonald-Corea – Top Defenceman – The St. Albert, Alberta native had a goal and three assists for four points in two games, helping the Coyotes win both of their games against the Princeton Posse and Summerland Steam. Against the Posse, McDonald-Corea scored the 1-1 equalizer, for his eighth of the season. Against the Steam, he collected three assists, including the primary one on the game-winning goal. McDonald-Corea is fourth on the Coyotes in points with 27 in 21 games. Those totals also rank him first in the KIJHL in points by a defenceman.
Osmond – Top Goalie – The Edmonton, Alberta native won both his games for the Heat, picking up victories over Princeton and Kamloops. Osmond made 66 saves on 68 shots for a .971 SP and a 0.93 GAA in 128 minutes of action as both games went to overtime, with one decided in a shootout. Osmond improved his record to 7-6-0 with a .911 SP and a 3.28 GAA.
