The Quesnel River Rush scored four unanswered goals after trailing 2-1 early in the game, eventually earning a 5-3 home ice victory over the Osoyoos Coyotes on Saturday night.
Dexter Materi gave Osoyoos a 1-0 advantage less than five minutes in, notching his third of the season on a breakaway.
Under two minutes later, the River Rush drew even. However, the Coyotes went back in front 2-1, thanks to a Tyler Seminoff powerplay marker from the blueline.
Quesnel tied things again before the period was out and had the only goal of the second period to take a 3-2 lead into the final 20 minutes.
Two more tallies put the River Rush ahead 5-2, prior to a late Myles Hayne effort while on the man advantage.
Rookie Braxton Becker suffered the netminding loss, allowing five goals on 35 shots in his junior hockey debut.
Osoyoos outshot Quesnel 36-35 overall.
What’s quite noticeable in the early going is a struggling Coyotes powerplay, which hasn’t looked overly impressive, going just two for eight against the River Rush.
It’s a 2-2 start to the regular season for the Osoyoos Coyotes, who play their home opener next Saturday, October 5th versus the 100 Mile House Wranglers. Face-off time is 7:00 pm, featuring Game Sponsor Tim Hortons.
