The Osoyoos Coyotes picked up right where they left off in returning from the Christmas break, defeating the Kelowna Chiefs 5-2 on Tuesday night in Rutland.
Tegan Neuman opened the scoring against his former team, with Jack Henderson (1G/1A), Nathan Hannon (1G/1A), Evan Dean (1G/1A) and Zachary Park (into an empty net) adding singles. For Dean, it was his first junior hockey goal.
Kenny Gerow was solid in net when called upon, stopping 26 of the 28 shots he faced. The Coyotes outshot the Chiefs 31-28 overall, while leading 2-1 after 20 minutes and 3-2 following two periods of play.
The loss snapped Kelowna’s seven game winning streak. Meantime, Osoyoos has won four-in-a-row and 10 of its last 11. The only blemish during that stretch was a 4-3 shootout loss, December 10th in Chase.
The now 20-2-1-3 Coyotes play the Chiefs for the second time in 24 hours on Wednesday night (Dec. 29th) at 7:35 at the Sun Bowl Arena.
