A third period rally lifted the Posse to a 3-1 victory over the Osoyoos Coyotes, Saturday night in Princeton.
After a scoreless opening period, Scott Dyck got the Coyotes on the board late in the second to give Osoyoos a 1-0 lead following 40 minutes.
However, the Posse tallied early in the third to tie the game, before getting a powerplay marker near the halfway point of the period to go up 2-1.
The Coyotes came close to equalizing in the dying seconds, but Princeton was awarded an empty net goal in the final minute with Jaiden Jakubowski on the bench for an extra attacker.
Let’s face it, the only reason Osoyoos had a chance at an upset win was the stellar goaltending of Jakubowski, who stopped 54 of 56 shots, many of the difficult variety. The Coyotes managed just 26.
It was a valiant performance by a depleted group, especially on the heels of an embarrassing blowout the night before. Osoyoos was again missing six regulars due to various reasons. To add insult to literal injury, Captain Tyler Seminoff didn’t return for the third period.
Realizing the playoffs are definitely out of reach, the Coyotes will have to finish their nine remaining regular season games playing for pride.
