The Osoyoos Coyotes quickly turned a close hockey game into a decisive victory, downing the Fernie Ghostriders 5-1, Sunday night at the Sun Bowl Arena.
Powerplay goals from Jack Henderson and Coletyn Boyarski gave the Coyotes a 2-0 advantage after 20 minutes of play.
The Ghostriders cut the lead in half close to the midway point of the second period. However, a short time later, Osoyoos exploded for three goals in a span of just 1:42 to go up 5-1. Micahlind Pelletier, Jarrod Gale and Ethan Floris were responsible for the scoring barrage. Hunter Harwood chipped in with a pair of assists.
The Coyotes outshot Fernie 46-36 during the debut of Rhett Harkot, who was stellar in the Osoyoos net, named the First Star for his effort, which often featured lightning quick glove hand saves.
The two weekend wins saw the Coyotes outscore the opposition 11-3, while improving to 2-1-1-0.
Next up for the Osoyoos Coyotes is Friday night’s (October 7th) trip to Sicamous, prior to Saturday night’s (October 8th) hosting of Kelowna.
