Game Six, Friday night in Summerland, was the epitome of sudden death!
Zach Park scored off a goal mouth scramble with just one-second remaining in the first overtime period to give Osoyoos a 2-1 win and capture the Bill Ohlhausen Division Final, Four Games-to-Two.
Following a scoreless opening 20 minutes, the Steam managed the lone goal of the second period. The Coyotes ran into all kinds of penalty trouble in the middle period, including a five-on-three, but were able to weather the shorthanded storm.
Jack Henderson tied the game eight-and-a-half minutes into the third, a period in which Osoyoos dominated on the shot clock, 17-3.
The first extra period had back-and-forth chances and it looked as though ongoing overtime was imminent, prior to Park’s literal, last second heroics.
Shots were 40-26 in favour of the Coyotes, greatly bolstered by the lop-sided third period.
Kenny Marquart earned the victory in net, his fourth of the playoffs.
Credit Summerland for a more than valiant effort. The Steam may have lost all eight regular season meetings to Osoyoos, however without a doubt gave the Coyotes some nervous moments in the post-season. Five of the six games were decided by one goal, three of the six going to overtime.
The Osoyoos Coyotes now turn their attention to the Revelstoke Grizzlies, whom they meet in the Okanagan/Shuswap Conference Final, getting underway on Tuesday night (Mar. 15th) at 8:05 at the Sun Bowl Arena.
