Cygan’s Late Heroics Result in First Win!

It was a game a young group of Osoyoos Coyotes won’t soon forget.  Caden Cygan scored with just 13-seconds left in regulation time to give the Coyotes a 3-2 victory over the North Okanagan Knights, Saturday night at the Sun Bowl Arena.

Talk about ‘deflation to elation.’  Osoyoos held a 2-1 lead from late in the second period until the 18:57 mark of the third, when the Knights tied the game with their goaltender pulled in favour of an extra attacker.

Although that must have felt like a stake through the heart, the Coyotes persevered, averting overtime thanks to Cygan’s dramatic game winner in the dying seconds, snapping a four-game slide to begin the season and sending a home opener crowd of 344 into a frenzy.  The win avenged a 3-2 loss to North Okanagan a night earlier in Armstrong.

Jarrod Gale and Logan Messer had the other Osoyoos goals.  Cygan, Messer and Gale also added an assist apiece for a two point night.

Hunter Arntsen earned the win in net.  Shots were an even 29 each.

The Coyotes hope to ride the momentum into Thanksgiving weekend when they travel to Summerland on Friday night (October 6th), before hosting Sicamous Saturday night (October 7th), getting underway at 7:00.  Game Sponsor on Saturday is the 15 Park Bistro, inside the Watermark Beach Resort.
